(NEWS10) -- New York State's budget, passed late Tuesday, includes a major win for environmentalists: A law that makes the state the first in the country to ban natural gas in most new buildings, including appliances like gas-powered stoves and furnaces.While climate activists are celebrating, not all consumers are on board. LOUIS - The St. Louis Circuit Court has named a special prosecutor to try indirect criminal contempt cases against Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner and a former subordinate.Family attorney Allison Lee, of the Sandberg Phoenix law firm, will handle proceedings on the circuit court's behalf. Lee is a former assistant circuit attorney in St. Louis and a former assistant state's attorney for Miami-Dade County, Florida.Gardner and Chris Desilets face indirect contempt of court hearings, after Desilets no-showed an April 10 court date for a shooting case. Several Southern California residents are among five defendants charged in a federal racketeering scheme to steal millions of dollars from consumers’ bank accounts, officials announced Wednesday.A total of 14 people were charged in the seven-count indictment alleging conspiracy to violate the RICO Act, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.Members of the criminal enterprise allegedly created shell companies that claimed to offer products or services such as cloud storage, according to the indictment.
