LAS VEGAS (AP) — William Byron returns to Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the betting favorite to win the Cup title as the round of eight of NASCAR’s playoffs opens. He’s certainly in great shape with a series-high six victories this season, and his first win of the year came at Las Vegas back in March. A win on Sunday would lock him into the title-deciding championship finale and give him the next two weeks to prepare — the same model Joey Logano used a year ago by winning at Las Vegas and then winning the title at Phoenix.Byron doesn’t care what the oddsmakers say about his chances next month of hoisting his first Cup championship trophy and on Saturday wouldn’t declare himself the favorite.“I don’t know, that’s for you guys to decide,” Byron said. “I just go out there and drive. For me, it’s one step at a time, it really is. Take it one step at a time in each race of this round. I’m not looking too far ahead, honestly. It’s a tough field to evaluate,...

Howie Carr: ‘Turtleboy’ arrest a big career-booster

Published Sat, 08 Feb 2025 05:14:37 GMT

Good career move, Turtleboy. In case you missed it, Aiden Kearney, the local blogger better known as Turtleboy, was arrested by the State Police Wednesday. It’s no fun getting lugged, but this is one of those times when every knock is a boost. This pinch will ultimately be a major resume enhancer for Turtleboy, because now he’s got videotape to shop around Hollywood.Kearney, a 41-year-old former school teacher from Holden, was recorded doing the perp walk into a local district court, flanked by flabby, jack-booted troopers. He was handcuffed behind his back — the mark of any Serious Journalist in a future streaming docudrama that is, as they say, Ripped from the Headlines. And it wasn’t shot by some fanboy on a shaky, out-of-focus cell phone — it was on local TV news. That is like money in the bank when you are trying to negotiate a deal with somebody like Netflix — it shows you’re getting the job done, whatever the job is.The charges against Kearney are “witness intimidation.” But as on...

Some pilots used their propane burners to shoot flames upward in unison as the spectacle unfolded.“It’s very exciting to be here and have the convergence of our love of flying with something very natural like an eclipse,” said Allan Hahn of Aurora, Colorado, w...

NEEDHAM — When coach Jeff Moore came to Tabor Academy this offseason, people expected success, but maybe down the road.Maybe the Seawolves are a bit ahead of schedule.Behind a strong running game and big plays in the passing game in the second half, Tabor beat St. Sebastian’s on Saturday, 38-28, to improve to 4-0.St. Sebastian’s drops to 2-2.“Feels great,” Moore said. “The biggest thing is the players. They work really, really hard. They’re very unselfish. They really love each other. It’s an important piece to what we do. I’ve been fortunate. I have a great group of kids. The record last year doesn’t tell justice of the leadership that we have, the camaraderie that we have. All the kids that were already here. They’ve done a phenomenal job of being leaders, as well. So, we’re really fortunate for where we’re at.”Junior running back Hugo Djeumeni rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries for ...
