It’s wonderful to see Helen Mirren taking on a meaty role into which she can sink her highly talented teeth. In recent years, the acclaimed English actor has been spending some of her on-screen time bringing a little bit of class to movies in the “Fast and Furious” franchise. And last year she showed up in borderline-unwatchable DC Extended Universe affair “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” (As the DCEU is no more, let us simply never speak of that one again.)Now, though, Mirren, who earned an Academy Award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in 2006’s “The Queen,” portrays another significant figure in the last several decades of world history.“Golda” — a sturdy if not-quite-stellar drama already in theaters in select markets and going wider this week — sees Mirren as Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, the only woman to hold the position. With the help of excellent work from costume designer Sinéad Kidao (“Small Axe”) and hair and makeup supervisor Karen Hartley Thomas (“The Courier”), ...Rockies fans survey: What are your thoughts about attending games at Coors Field?

Can he approach the former All-Pro’s production?

The throw was beautiful, but the catch was just as glamorous.During an intense round of 11-on-11 at Broncos training camp, quarterback Russell Wilson glanced down the sideline to see wide receiver Courtland Sutton attempting to create separation from cornerback Pat Surtain II on a go-route. When Sutton beat out his All-Pro teammate by an inch, Wilson threw a pretty spiral to the sixth-year veteran, who corralled the ball with two hands. At that moment, the 2019 version of Sutton, who recorded 1,112 receiving yards and went to the Pro Bowl, had reemerged.Sutton spent the offseason working on his body to return to the player he was four seasons ago. He also studied New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, because that’s the vision Broncos head coach Sean Payton has for him. With Tim Patrick (torn left Achilles) out for the season once again, it’s now more important than ever that he fills that role.“The ultimate goal is to be the best wide receiver that I can be,” Sutton said. “...8 Colorado high school football games to watch in Week 2

Could this be Creek’s best shot at getting the elusive “W”? Week 1 certainly offered few clues. While Valor lost a nail-biter at Regis Jesuit that saw Eagles QB Asher Weiner compile 264 yards on 20-of-34 passing with one TD and one interception, Creek sat idle after its Week 1 opponent was forced to forfeit. (Shmuel Thaler/Santa Cruz Sentinel) The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office began calling for evacuations on Vega and Hayes roads, plus all connecting tributary streets, around 2:21 p.m., before the fire was an estimated 5 to 7 acres and had a moderate rate of spread. Published Mon, 30 Dec 2024 22:36:51 GMT
I intended to write a normal horse-race column this week, about what we can glean from the polling that came out after the first Republican debate. The emphasis was going to be on the resilience of Ron DeSantis, the success of Nikki Haley, the modest perils for Donald Trump in not showing up for these affairs — and then the larger problem of how DeSantis or Haley or anyone else might unite the anti-Trump vote instead of just repeating the fragmentation of 2016.But is anything we could learn from one Republican debate more significant than the news that the most important legal case against Trump, his federal trial for alleged election-related crimes, will begin the day before Super Tuesday? Probably not. So let’s save DeSantis and Haley for another day and talk about the significance of a front-runner’s trial running through the heart of a primary campaign. From any theory of the law’s relationship to democratic deliberation, this seems like an extremely suboptimal convergence. If yo...Latest news
