ANAHEIM, Calif. — The pitching matchup certainly lived up to the billing.Shohei Ohtani was Shohei Ohtani and Pablo López was Pablo López, which is to say that the two starting pitchers spent the majority of the day dealing, settling into a nice little pitcher’s duel.It wasn’t until each pitcher left the game that things broke down for the Twins, yet another bases-loaded opportunity falling to the wayside in the top of the seventh inning and the Angels surging ahead against the bullpen in the bottom of the frame. Both were all-too-familiar happenings for the Twins on their six-game road swing through Southern California, which ended with a 4-2 loss to the Angels on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim.López took the loss in the game, left in to start the seventh inning. He walked the first batter, spelling the end of his day. From there, Jorge López entered, immediately giving up a pair of doubles to Zach Neto and Mickey Moniak, the latter of which brought home a pair of runs. The game swung i...Chinese Community Center celebrates 50 years serving Capital Region

LOS ANGELES — In another year, or perhaps even just a few months earlier this season, Nuggets sniper Michael Porter Jr. would’ve gladly taken the dagger from 3.The Nuggets were up 96-94 with just 7:04 left in Saturday’s Game 3, and Porter found himself on the wing with a window. In general, those are the only prerequisites Porter needs to hoist. But, in a nod to Denver’s unselfishness in their astounding Game 3 victory and Porter’s ongoing maturation, the 6-foot-10 marksman decided to turn a good shot into a great one. He kicked it to the corner and Bruce Brown, who’d been eager to deliver an uppercut to the Lakers’ chances.“One of my favorite plays of the night, he caught the ball in front of the Laker bench,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “He could have shot the ball contested. Makes one more pass to Bruce Brown, wide-open corner three. … That shows Michael’s continued maturation as a player.”After Brown buried the triple not five feet in fr...Authorities seek help locating at-risk 67-year-old man missing out of Los Angeles

With a record of 10-38 and smarting from being swept for the seventh time this season following a 2-0 road loss to the Houston Astros Sunday, the Athletics are deep into the moral victory stage of a lost season.Moral wins supposedly aren’t a part of professional sports, but in reality they always have existed even if they’re never recognized as such by the principles.Left-hander Framber Valdez put the A’s on lockdown, spinning his fifth career complete game and second shutout, giving up five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts to even his record at 4-4 and drop his earned run average to 2.45.With a strong five innings from James Kaprielian, the A’s had three above-average performances from their starters against Houston, which improved to 27-19. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Rougned Odor hit a desperately needed bases-clearing double off struggling Corey Kluber in the first inning, Matt Carpenter homered and the San Diego Padres beat the Boston Red Sox 7-0 Sunday for just their third win in 14 games.Odor finished with two doubles and four RBIs and Michael Wacha (5-1), who pitched for Boston last year, threw six strong innings. The Padres snapped a four-game losing streak and gave their fans something to cheer about after being booed several times during the last three games.Carpenter drew a bases-loaded walk two batters ahead of Odor’s three-run double and then greeted reliever Richard Bleier with a two-run homer to right with one out in the third. Odor added an RBI double in the sixth. The seven runs were the most since a 7-1 win against Cincinnati on May 3.San Diego came in hitting an MLB-low .191 with runners in scoring position, a mystifying development for a team with baseball’s third-highest payroll, considering that b...Latest news
