New Life Academy of Woodbury beat West Central in five sets in a Class A state volleyball quarterfinal Thursday night at the Xcel Energy Center.The Eagles emerged from the back-and-forth match with a 25-22, 16-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12 victory.No. 4-seeded New Life Academy takes on the top-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday at the Xcel Energy Center. Russell-Tyler-Ruthton swept unseeded Pine River-Backus in their quarterfinal.Momentum looked to be in the hands of West Central after decisive wins in the second and third sets put the Knights just a set away from victory.But New Life wouldn’t be put down so easily. TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department has seen a recent uptick in incidents involving Kia and Hyundai vehicles. While some cases involve vehicle theft, most involve suspects damaging windows and trying to start the vehicle's ignition. Two juveniles and an adult were arrested recently in connection to Kia and Hyundai thefts. Only 15% of California households could afford to buy a home during the third quarter of 2023, according to new figures released by the California Association of Realtors.The new figures represent the lowest home affordability rate since 2007, a news release said.The latest figures show that California’s housing affordability rates continue to decrease. 53-Year-Old Man Killed in Sugar Plant Accident on Holly DriveTRACY, CA (November 10, 2023) – Dean Melavic lost his life Sunday night in a workplace accident at the former Holly Sugar Plant. At approximately 10:20 a.m., emergency units from the South San Joaquin County Fire responded to the plant located on Holly Drive’s 20500 block.Per reports, a worker fell into a sizable silo within the facility, plunging about 80 feet into the machinery.Rescue operations involved a rope pulley system and a team of at least sixteen individuals to retrieve the man’s body from the silo. Despite the efforts of first responders, Dean Melavic was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as the 53-year-old worker from Elk Grove by the San Joaquin Medical Examiner.Presently, a Cal/OSHA representative is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident.
